Florida is considered one of the few “vacation” destination assignments, offering beautiful year-round weather, plenty of attractions, and miles of beaches. Take a look at some of the must see destinations as a travel nurse in Florida!
Manatee Springs State Park
If you’re looking for a relaxing day off exploring nature, check out Manatee Springs State Park! The park’s boardwalk spanning 800 feet funnels through a stunning cypress forest over looking natural water springs. True to its namesake, manatees can be spotted in different areas of the springs in the cooler months. Manatee Springs also offers 9 miles of nature trails, as well as a connection to the Nature Coast State Trail. This is the perfect must see destination as a travel nurse, especially for those who are looking for adventure.
Naples Pier
Perched at the west end of Naples Municipal Beach, the Naples Pier is a stunning boardwalk that stretches 1,000 feet into the Gulf of Mexico. This pier is known for its beautiful panoramic views, especially at sunset! It’s also a great spot for fishing, since there’s plenty of room for casting lines and it does not require a fishing license. If you happen to be in the area on the 4th of July, it’s one of the best spots to catch the annual fireworks display. The best part? IT’S FREE!
Cape Florida Light
Next on the list is the Cape Florida Light! This stunning lighthouse is full of Floridian history. Erected in 1825, this lighthouse was used to guide sailors around the Florida reef to avoid accidents. Today, it’s a cultural landmark and the ideal spot to view the Florida Keys. Located in Key Biscayne, visitors can trek to the top of the lighthouse and view the Atlantic Ocean. If you’re lucky, you might just catch some dolphins, stingrays, or manatees swimming! The Cape Florida Light is free with park entry, and tours are available five days a week.
The Everglades
The Everglades is definitely one of the must see destinations as a travel nurse in Florida! The Everglades National Park is home to the largest subtropical wilderness in the country. Take a ride on an airboat and get up close and personal with the vast wildlife, including several endangered species, snakes, birds, and of course, Alligators! If being face to face with animals isn’t your thing, there are other guided tours available throughout the park.
Delray Beach
Delray Beach is a vibrant community located on the east coast of Florida. Known as the “Village by the sea”, this quaint town is home to 2 miles of stunning sandy beaches, hundreds of restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries. There are year round events hosted downtown, such as the Savor the Avenue event, a dinner party spanning 5 blocks. This small beach town is perfect for a relaxing day off, and some retail therapy, of course!
