Salt Lake City, UT
Salt Lake City is a must-see destination for winter fanatics. The Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges provide a stunning backdrop to the city skyline, along with several historical sites and natural wonders to explore. One of the most prominent natural wonders Salt Lake has to offer is the Bonneville Salt Flats. The salt flats are the remnants of ancient Lake Bonneville, spanning over 30,000 acres. Located west of the the Great Salt Lake, which is about 110 miles west of Salt Lake City, the flats make for a fun adventure on a day off. If you’re more of a history buff, Salt Lake is home to many religious and cultural attractions. Nestled in the heart of Salt Lake is Temple Square, where you can tour several buildings related to the history of the LDS church.
Another exciting natural wonder in the area is the Great Salt Lake. Coming in at 35 miles wide and 75 miles long, the Great Salt Lake is the largest natural saltwater lake in the country. If you enjoy hiking, there are several trails to explore with great picnic spots along the way. A popular access point to the lake is Antelope Island, a state park located west of the area. While you still get the beautiful scenery the lake has to offer, it’s a great place to spot wildlife such as bison, and you guessed it, antelope! The island sits around the lake’s southeast shore, about a 60 mile trip one-way.
Breckenridge, CO
This one is for the ski fanatics! Breckenridge is great for winter sports, ski resorts, shopping districts, and of course, its alluring mountain range. One of the best places to hit the slopes is at Breckenridge Ski Resort, which spans over the southern half of the Tenmile Range. There are five sections of peaks, each with varying degrees of difficulty for all levels of skiing experience. Visitors say that peak 9 is best for beginners, and peak 10 is more for the expert skiers and thrill seekers. If skiing or snowboarding isn’t your thing, hit up Carter Park. It’s known for having the best sledding hills in town!
If you need a break from the slopes, Breckenridge is well-known for Main Street. Located a short drive from most of the ski resorts in the area, this charming area is home to several local shops and restaurants. Stop into one of the store fronts for a souvenir, or pop into one of the restaurants to warm up with a delicious cocktail. Although this destination is known for its spectacular ski resorts and mountains, Breckenridge has something for everyone to enjoy.
Miami Beach, FL

Anchorage, AK
If you love the snow, this is probably one of the best spots to take an assignment this winter! Anchorage is paradise for those who love winter sports, hiking, fishing and wildlife. Anchorage is the perfect mix of a cosmopolitan city and the great outdoors. Winter is one of the best times of the year to see the Northern Lights. Also known as the aurora borealis, waves of color and light dazzle the night skies making for jaw dropping scenery. Although the northern lights occur 24/7, 365 days a year, you need to be in the right place at the right time to view them. One of the best places to view them is at Denali National Park, about a 4 hour drive away from Anchorage.
Even though it’s a lengthy drive from Anchorage, the drive to Denali is one of the best ways to view all the beauty Alaska has to offer. To view the northern lights, the night skies will need to be clear and there will need to be very little to no light pollution from your surroundings. When you see them, it will surely be an unforgettable experience. Alaska is full of scenic destinations and exhilarating experiences, and is surely a bucket list place to visit on assignment.
San Antonio, TX
San Antonio is a great location for a winter travel nurse assignment, for a great reason! This city is known as one of the best places to visit in Texas.
